Our secondArtistic Hat competition, Art quiz and Christmas buffet took place on 15th December 2025 in the Methodist church hall.
The Art Quiz
Paul and Terry produced an eclectic mix of pictures, puzzles and problems that taxed members’ brain power, eliciting much rivalry, argument and disagreement. All the scores were close, and the winning team chosen by a punch-up- whoops! I mean tiebreak.

Buffet
An imaginative buffet that included delicious non-gluten and vegan options, was produced by Penny.

The Artistic Hat Competition:
Penny, and Liz had the impossible task of choosing the winner and runner up of the ‘Create a seaside hat’ competition.

Jan won first prize with her fancy concoction of sea, sand, shingle, ice cream, seagulls and some tasty lookalike wooden chips in newspaper.

Second prize went to Penny for her ambitious plant pot hat, crowned with a baby seagull in its nest.
The rest of our intrepid entrants’ works of art were almost as good, so in no particular order . . .

This is our chairman Paul with a fresh fish hut on his head.

And here’s Eunice with even more huts on hers – ice cream, Punch and Judy, fish n chips and RNLI plus lifeguards.

Kate’s little Captain Birds Eye style fishing boat bobs on top of white crested waves with a netful of fish dangling below at the back.

Every item on Sharon’s hat was scavenged from Seaton beach. She manipulated bits of driftwood, steam-bending them into shape to form an apex, with seaweed, pebbles and shells scattered beneath, a recycling labour of love.

Jackie’s hat would have suited Robinson Crusoe, hanging out on his desert island all those years ago.

Here’s Agna dressed as an octopus.

Vivienne’s elegant confection wouldn’t seem out of place at any beachside wedding,

Can you spot what is missing from Sue’s Plymouth Hoe lighthouse? (a seagull on top)
Currently, we have more than a hundred art club members and are hoping to attract a lot more entries to next December’s hat competition.
