The annual exhibition is held at Seaton Town Hall in August – a prestigious venue in the centre of the town, at the height of the holiday season. All members are encouraged to show their work – it is heartening to see one’s efforts framed and even more cheering to sell a piece of work. The Society takes a commission of just 15%, which helps us to afford excellent demonstrators throughout the year.
Six trophies are awarded at the Exhibition – this year the President’s Cup chosen by Alan Cotton for the best work on show was won by Magie Luff for Iris in an Antique Jug; the Maggie Lodge Rose Bowl award for flower painting went to Anna Mason; the Devon Framer’s Cup for landscape was won by Janet Potter for Winter Quiet which also won the Mitre Box public choice cup; the Barbara Hollingsworth trophy for portraiture went to Maureen Sherman and the Bob Hurndell Cup for wildlife paintiing was awarded to Rita Sugden.
We expect all members, whether they exhibit or not, to do a couple of stewarding sessions at the Show. Confident members sometimes bring a work in progress into the Exhibition and allow visitors to watch them at work.
Currently, members also have the chance to exhibit work in the gallery at Pecorama in May.
